Lest We Forget Their Sacrifices

 Remembrance Day here in Canada is November 11th...a day of solemn reminder to all of us the world over of the sacrifices that our men and women have made and are still making to grant us the FREEDOM we so cherish every day. I am from a small rural community on the East Coast of Canada that stops what they are doing to remember, and have come to the largest city in Canada that doesn't make it a day to value those who served and are serving this great country of ours and it upsets me very much. The lives we lose everyday in other countries trying to keep the peace and prevent evil from trying to consume us as it did those long days ago when the world really knew evil existed. I have family members that served in Canada's military in both World Wars as well as other conflicts around the world...I just wish I had the chance to tell them "thank you".

My great uncle, Don, served as a member of the military during the World War II and a few years ago pasted on to serve in God's army. I wish I had gotten to know him better and told him how much his participation in the battles meant to me.
I want to pass on the gratitude to my children this year and always, so we will be attending the services with my sister and brother-in-law, an army reservist. I still remembering as a third grade student laying the wreath at the cenotaph, and standing with a veteran who saluted the memorial and so I followed in suit and saluted as well. I am so proud to live in this wonderful nation, Canada.

I hope you enjoy these printables because I sure enjoyed creating them in honour of those brave soldiers lost by all the nations, our Veterans and present day Military Service Personnel (be they active or retired). To this I say "Thank You" which is never enough to settle the minds and hearts of those who serve the great nations the world over to keep us safe and FREE! Don't forget to wear your poppy proudly for all of them who have or are paying the ultimate price to keep us SAFE.

Proudly Wearing my Poppy for All, I thought I would also include In Flanders Fields, a poem written by Lt. Col. John McCrae (one poem, my mother can recite from memory on any given moment, she tells me it was something she had to learn when she was in school). It is one of the most memorable pieces of literature commemorating remembering the fallen.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
      Between the crosses, row on row,
   That mark our place; and in the sky
   The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
   Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
         In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
   The torch; be yours to hold it high.
   If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
         In Flanders fields.
