Dr. Sears Family Essentials and Giveaway (CLOSED)

I had the great privilege of being able to listen in on a webinar by Dr. Jim Sears, co-host of The Doctors TV show, yesterday. Dr. Jim is also from the family of doctors behind such things as AskDrSears.com and the books like The Baby Book, The Discipline Book, and Dr. Sears' Lean Kids, to name a few of them. The webinar was regarding the topic of the Paediatric Nutrition and in part to discuss the Dr. Sears Family Essentials. In the webinar, Dr. Jim discussed many of the things that are important with making sure that kids get the best nutrition for their growing bodies. I really enjoyed the discussion part where questions were posed to Dr. Jim. The information on picky eaters and how to get them eating was something I was  definitely interested in with Princess being an extreme picky eater as opposed to Monkey who eats what you put in front of him, for the most part.
Dr. Jim Sears
Some of the tips Dr. Jim suggested for picky eaters were: using the disguising method as per blending up the good for you stuff and adding it to meals. He also suggested giving the kids an empty plate and having your meal on your plate and once they notice that they have nothing to eat they may ask for what you are eating. Princess Picky-Eater is the most difficult person in my house. She will find every excuse to not eat and usually finishes the bread first or the drink and then talk throughout the rest of her meal time. I have tried everything from making meal time fun with different cutouts and the muffin tin thing but it lasts for one time them it is a fight with her to get her to finish her meal. She is great negotiator. I honestly think she could sell snow to  a snowman, she's that good (something she gets from her Daddy.)

So I will be trying some of these ideas with her if any of you have a suggestion on how to over come her picky-ness I welcome the advice. Please I will try anything to get her to eat. (I am begging you...I'm on my knees here.)

ooo my son is also a picky eater so maybe I'm not the best person to give tips :/ My son does, however, love carrots, so in an attempt to make him eat other things I mix everything with carrots, even fruit. You'd think this would be rather disgusting, but it seems to do the trick most of the time. You may also want to consider adding spices such as cinnamon to her food and seeing if that piques her appetite at all. Good luck!

Very Veggie Mac and Cheese

My husband calls this a "next day" dinner. It's so good, you will want to have it again, the next day! This is a great way to get kids to eat veggies without realizing it.

16 oz box Organic Macaroni
2 tsp butter
1 cup low fat sour cream
2 cups mixed grated Canadian cheese
1 large tomato seeded and chopped
1 spaghetti squash cooked and shredded
1 cooked breast of chicken (optional)

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add a pinch of salt and 450g of organic Macaroni and boil for 8 minutes. Stir a few times to ensure the pasta doesn't stick together. Drain. Return to pot and add butter and mix to coat. Add grated cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, squash, chicken and mix thoroughly to distribute evenly.

Pour into an oven proof casserole dish, cover with lid or foil and bake in oven for 35 minutes.

Tip: Cook the squash the night before while you eat dinner, then scrape it and refrigerate it.

i didn't know he had products...love it! my tips are a lot like his...

first of all, eat what u want them to eat. i ate steamed brocoli every night for a week. first night, kids didnt eat it. by the last night both kids are some, my daughter ate tons!! i also got some healthy brocoli in my diet that week...i guess that's a good thing

two - i blend an entire warmed up bag of frozen veggies in with a jar of pasta sauce and add some flax seed. they cook up some extra lean ground turkey with lots and lots of olive oil (think no bad fat, lots of good fat). it make a lot so i always freeze half...and the kids eat it up! i also try and use barilla plus pasta bc has even more protein...
