Word World App from iTunes Review

ITunes icon
I was offered a chance to review the Word World App for my iPhone, Build A Word.  Princess is a huge fan of Word World and I was overjoyed at the chance to have an app on my iPhone that would be useful in keeping her busy. So I went on and downloaded. I immediately showed her the app and that was the end of that...she was busy with the app for over 30 minutes. She didn't take long to get the hang of how to use the app and played and played and played. Battery life on the iPhone was at 100% and by the end went down to 55%. She loved the chance to "build" the characters and would sing the theme song every time she "built a word". It is a great game to introduce her to the letter recognition and sounds. Shebegan to associate the picture with the word, as she has been doing a lot lately with signs.
The Description from iTunes on Build A Word App discusses the app is able to help improve the early literacy skills (print awareness, letter recognition, and comprehension). In the Build A Word app, letters float across the screen and the child is required to chase them down and drag them to the outlined letters to build that word with each letter falling into to place. Once the word is built then the word is pushed together and metamorphosis takes place and a WordFriend is created. There is also a Lite version of the app but the Build A Word number is limited. In the paid for version the Build A Word Word Friends included:DOG, DUCK, PIG, ANT, FROG, SHEEP, BUG, COW, CAT, and BEE.
Here are some screen shots:

Duck

Building Sheep
Pig

The Paid for version is $0.99. The only downside I see to this app is the fact that not a huge number of words to build are available in comparison to the number of WordFriends on Word World...they leave out ANT, BEAR, SHARK, BIRD, KANGAROO, and other characters, because there is a lot of repeating that goes on which could lead to the memorization factor happening.  So it might be something that Word World groups will take into account when updating the app.
Overall, I really enjoyed the fact that Princess loved the app and it allowed me to get a few things done, like cook supper.  I hope that it will bring peace to the table when we go to the restaurants as a family.  It sure was a hit! So hopefully you will check it out even if it is the Lite version of Build A Word.
