This giveaway is being hosted by Micah Makes. Micah Makes is the cute little Etsy shop, where you can great you 'hook on'. Micah Makes is a shop filled with crochet patterns for some pretty darn cute items. And there really is a Micah behind Micah Makes. Micah York, she is a SAHM to 2 boys, and this little shop helps her do her most important job. Micah has created each pattern in American terminology, but very easy to follow plus she makes herself available to you through email if there are any questions that come up while you are following her pattern. All of Micah's patterns are available in multiple sizes allowing you to have numerous options when it comes to the finished product.
I sent Micah a few questions to allow us to get to know the creative mind behind these lovely patterns. Here are her answers:

AM2CW: Where did you get your start? Self taught or learn from family or friend?

Micah: When I was a teenager, I decided I didn't want to be limited to the clothes and accessories that were available in stores, so my mom taught me how to sew, my aunt taught me to knit, and I taught myself to crochet. I grew to love all of these crafts, but crochet has always been my favourite.

AM2CW: Where do you get your ideas?

Micah: I like to create things that I would use for my own family, friends or myself. My boys' interests have inspired some of my hat patterns, like the firefighter helmet, train conductor hat and triceratops hats, but every once in a while I like to make something for myself, like the breezy newsboy hat and interchangeable flowers. My family and friends are always contributing great ideas too.

Sometimes I am inspired by a certain shape or color combination. I also LOVE to put creative spins on hat styles to turn them into animals, such as the penguin bomber hat, ladybug earflap hat and the frog prince hat. I spend so much time thinking about the designs, prototyping hats, and testing the patterns to make sure they are super-easy to follow.

AM2CW: What do you see for your shop in the next 6 months?

Micah: I have recently discontinued selling any custom ordered finished items so that I can focus strictly on creating new patterns. I have lots of ideas I would like to create to have available in my shop including more hats and other accessories. I am working on some new coupon codes that customers can use in my newly opened pattern store, and I will be adding learn-to-crochet videos to my blog so that I can share this fun craft with others.

AM2CW: Do you have some new patterns in the works?

Micah: I am always working on new patterns. At this point, I have more ideas than time to produce them, but I guess that is better than running out of ideas! Right now I am working on a pattern for a cowl and fingerless gloves.

AM2CW: What are 3 words that describe you and your shop?

Micah: Creative - I'm always trying to think of clever designs and unique ideas. 

Valuable - Everything I sell I would be happy to buy. All my patterns are thoroughly tested to ensure they are easy to follow, and I always offer assistance if a customer needs some extra help.

Professional - This business is something I take very seriously. I strive to create quality patterns that will produce fun and functional products that people can enjoy.

AM2CW: What is the most popular pattern in your shop?

Micah: My most popular pattern is the firefighter helmet pattern. Everyone loves it, and it can be personalized with your favorite fire company number.

My Review:

I was given the chance to review one of Micah Makes crochet patterns... and after mulling over all of her very cute patterns. I chose to review the Worsted Weight Triceratops Hat. I chose this pattern because it is cute and reminds me of 'Tank the Triceratops' on the Dinosaur Train, as well as the fact that the majority of my crochet patterns I have are girly and wanted to be able to make something for Monkey and other 'little/ big' boys. I mean just look at the pattern's picture.... who wouldn't want to wear this on their head young or old. And it is also customizable for girls too! The pattern is multi-sized in it's option for you to make. The pattern is in pdf format download. The pattern is very easy to follow and I had no problem following the step by step instructions. I am a novice self-taught crocheter and have been crocheting since I was in high school. I found the pattern to be easy enough that a beginner would have no problem following it's instructions. My only problem was deciding the colour to make Monkey's hat and keeping Princess from trying to claim the finished hat as her own...and yes, I did end up making her one of her own in PINK of course. The pattern was originally created for bulky yarn but Micah has created a WW yarn option. Also I want to point out the the price of her patterns are pretty reasonable and in line with other shops that offer crochet patterns, you can bundle them and save more too!!! Here is how the Triceratops hat turned out...
